What is the prefered viewing distance for a 50-inch HDTV?

12-15 feet.

Minimum: 7-8 ft

I would say about 10 feet away.

I think the rough rule is that good viewing distance is three times the diagonal length across the screen. For a 50″ screen I’m guessing it’s about 3 to 4 metres (10 – 12 feet).

Rule of thumb: Sit 1 foot away for every 8 inches of TV. ie 50″ TV, sit 6.25 ft away….or 6 ft 3 in away AT A MINIMUM
